As we are reminded of our sin, we shouldn't feel beaten up. It is okay to feel remorseful and sorry but we don't have to stay there. Remember, who has lives as we did so that He could bear our sin and defeat sin on our behalf? Jesus, when we feel broken or convicted we know we can go to Him for renewal and strength for overcoming our sin. And don't forget that the Holy Spirit resides in all believers to help us grow in and understand God's Word.

Am I being led by my sin or by the Holy Spirit? If we try to defeat our sin on our own we are fighting an up hill battle (not something you can win). Only the Holy Spirit can empower us to defeat our sin as He works in us.

There is comfort in the fact that salvation is based on Christ's work on the cross and not my own doing. Now, this does not give us a license to sin or do as we please. Rather, we are to grow more Christlike and ultimately not be like the rest of the world.

There is a lot to read this session, but I will highlight some main points and let you expand on what is discussed below. Like I said at the beginning, we are going to push the S.O.A.P. Bible study method to do what it is not meant to, in this case, using it for three groups of longer, related passages. Instead of writing out off of these passages, study each one individually and write out some key verses from each. This will also help train you on identifying the main purpose(s) of passages as you continue to study them.

Romans - Part 01 - An Overview

This is the first post in the Deeper series. I chose Romans as it is a great book to learn about theology, you can just call this book Paul's Systematic Theology. I will cover in some detail about resources that are helpful if you are just getting started with studying your Bible. I like this phrase "your Bible" as it reminds me how personable God's Word is to me, and you. Keep that in mind when you open your Bible, it's God's love story to you (this sounds corny but is very much true, John 3:16-17).
